Final Manuscript Preparation Guidelines for Art History Pedagogy & Practice

This document provides details on typesetting and layout requirements pertaining to final manuscript submission to Art History Pedagogy & Practice.

Formatting Requirements

  • Do not include a title page or abstract in the text of the document. Authors will be prompted to include this information as part of the submission process
  • Do not include page numbers, headers, or footers. These will be added by the editors.
  • Write your article in English.
  • Submit your manuscript, including tables, figures, appendices, etc., as a single file (Word, RTF, or PDF files are accepted).
  • Page size should be 8.5 x 11-inches.
  • All margins (left, right, top and bottom) should be 1.5 inches (3.8 cm), including your tables and figures.
  • Single space your text.
  • Use a single column layout with both left and right margins justified.
  • Font:
    1. Main Body—12 pt. Times or the closest comparable font available
    2. Footnotes—10 pt. Times or the closest comparable font available
  • If figures are included, use high-resolution figures.
  • Copyedit your manuscript.
  • When possible, there should be no pages where more than a quarter of the page is empty space.

Masking Manuscripts for Submission

Each author is responsible for appropriately masking their identity for peer review. No information or references to the author(s) or institution(s) should be included in the manuscript or title page, nor should they include acknowledgments. In addition to what is found within the document, the author should remove information about their identity from Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF properties.

It is the responsibility of the author to produce an electronic version of the article as a high-quality PDF (Adobe's Portable Document Format) file, or a Microsoft Word, WordPerfect or RTF file that can be converted to a PDF file.

Multimodal Projects

Authors with multimodal submissions should contact info@arthistorypp.org about specific requirements.

Image Policy

Authors should follow the College Art Association Code of Practices in Fair Use for the Visual Arts to determine the publishability of images. As stated in the journal policies, it will be the responsibility of the authors to secure all necessary copyright permissions for the use of third-party materials in their manuscript. Authors will be required to provide written evidence of this permission upon acceptance of their manuscript.

Copyediting

Authors should copyedit their own submissions. Articles are subject to final copyediting before they are published.

Accessibility Policy

In order to be certain that materials are accessible to a range of readers, authors should provide:

  • Alternative text (alt-text) for images, flowcharts, graphs, and data visualizations.
  • Captions for any video submission and transcripts for any audio submission.
  • Meaningful text for in-text hyperlinks.

Style Guidelines

Authors should utilize the Chicago Manual of Style 16th edition.
