Final Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

Manuscript Preparation Guidelines for Art History Pedagogy & Practice

This document provides details about style, layout, and formatting for your manuscript submission to Art History Pedagogy & Practice.

Submission Components

  • When submitting a manuscript, contributors should be prepared to share:
    • The names and contact information for all contributors.
    • A 250 word abstract of your contribution (excluding book reviews).
    •  The manuscript text and any figures, tables, or appendices, included in one document.

Style and Language

  • AHPP accepts articles in English. If you wish to discuss the possibility of submitting a multi-lingual essay, or publishing an English translation of a previously published article, please contact the editors at AHPP-Journal@Rutgers.edu
  • Submissions should follow the Chicago Manual of Style for language style as well as citations.
  • Please format citations as endnotes and include a bibliography.

Formatting

  • Please do not include a title page or abstract in the text of your document. Authors will be prompted to include this information as part of the submission process.
  • Please include any figures, tables, or appendices at the end of your essay and submit your manuscript as a single file (Word or PDF).
  • Please make sure your manuscript anonymizes your identity by not including your name or identifying information within the manuscript text. If you wish to include acknowledgments, those can be added in a later draft. You might also verify that information about your identity is not embedded within Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF properties.

Multimodal Projects

Authors with multimodal projects should contact the editors at AHPP-Journal@Rutgers.edu to inquire about submission.

Image Policy

Authors should follow the College Art Association Code of Practices in Fair Use for the Visual Arts to determine the publishability of images. It will be the responsibility of the author(s) to secure all necessary copyright permissions for the use of third-party materials in their manuscript. Authors will be required to provide written evidence of this permission upon acceptance of their manuscript.

Accessibility Policy

In order to be certain that materials are accessible to all readers, authors should provide:

  • Alternative text (alt-text) for images, charts, graphs, and data visualizations.
  • Captions for any video submission and transcripts for any audio submission.
  • Descriptive text for in-text hyperlinks (rather than pasted hyperlinks).
